Kipchoge was on Sunday, during the Mashujaa Day celebrations in Mombasa, awarded the Elder of the Order of The Golden Heart (EGH), after becoming the first man in history to run a marathon under two hours.

Weda, who is also a renowned lawyer, argued that the move was wrong since Kipchoge is not a hero, but a champion, and awarding him is disrespect to people who really deserve the recognition.

"Eliud is a champion, not a hero, people are declared heroes in the end. He just outran people. When you call Eliud a hero where then do you leave our researchers? Those researching for cancer medication?" he posed.

He spoke on KBC English Service on Wednesday morning, where he also faulted the president for declaring everyone a hero, including bloggers and jokers, giving an example of Githeri Man.

Weda argued that if people are declared heroes as early as Kipchoge, chances are high that they might end up soiling the presidential awards given to them in the long run.

"Heroes give up everything for a course, but when you take Githeri Man and bloggers for heroes that's a fat joke. Rudisha was also awarded but just take a look at his actions lately," he added.

The sprinter (Rudisha) was recently on the spotlight over claims of abandoning his family.
