The MCA was adversely mentioned in the fracas which eclipsed Deputy President William Ruto's visit to the region on Sunday.

Kariuki is said to have engineered the chaos and was captured whipping people opposed to Deputy President William Ruto.

Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu, a critic of DP William Ruto, on Monday claimed that the MCA has been allowed to fly out of Kenya.

"Apparently the Speaker of the Nyeri County Assembly organised a trip for the Deputy Speaker to leave the country last night, so that he doesn’t get arrested," he wrote.

"Yaani in county assemblies you don’t have to have an official reason to travel on government funds - you can travel to avoid arrest!!! I hope the EACC & the DCI to investigate how this decision to travel was reached, and who’s funds were used."

During the standoff, shirts printed in favour of President Uhuru Kenyatta were burnt by rowdy youths, leading to running battles between police and the youth.

Earlier on Sunday, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria had claimed that Wambugu was keen to disrupt the function, a claim which the latter denied.
