Speaking during the burial of the two in Mung'ala Village, Makueni County on Saturday, Kalonzo claimed the officials should be held accountable.

"It is clear to me that this was a case of criminal negligence. KFS officials should have raised the ramp of the ferry as required.

They should be arrested immediately and charged with criminal negligence,"  Kalonzo stated as quoted by Nation.

Kalonzo further added that the government should construct a bridge across Likoni Channel to prevent similar occurrences in future.

"The bridge should have a plaque with the names of Amanda, Mariam and all those who have perished inscribed in their honour," Kalonzo noted.

Other leaders including governor Kivutha Kibwana and Senator Mutula Kilonzo also supported Kalonzo's sentiments of action being taken against the officials.

President Uhuru Kenyatta had however disbanded the Kenya Ferry Services (KFS) board.

The accident which took place on September 29 placed KFS on the spot over safety of people who use ferries to cross the Likoni channel.
