Police in Kisumu are holding two people over allegations of chasing enumerators away from their homes as they wanted to take their data in line with the ongoing census.
The much-hyped head count began on Saturday night, kicking off with the enumeration of a number of notable political leaders including former President Daniel Arap Moi.
But police in Kisumu say the two, a man and a woman, refused to participate in the exercise after the enumerators approached them in Nyalenda Estate.
The same was confirmed by Kisumu County Police Commander Benson Maweu, a crime that can attract a fine of Sh500,000 or a one year imprisonment.
The crime contravenes a constitutional dictate warning against blocking, boycotting or giving false information in a census exercise.
The census officials also faced hurdles in some parts of the county, especially with regards to getting information from persons with hearing and visual impairments.
The government through the Ministry of Interior has since made it clear that it will nor condone any actions that could affect the exercise.
Speaking on Wednesday, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i warned politicians against any attempts to interfere with the same.
For the first time ever, the data collection is being done at night.
