The fatal accident was confirmed by County Commissioner Abdullahi Galgalo, who said three people are in critical condition.

The two ill-fated vehicles are said to have been heading in opposite directions, one from Nairobi and the other one to the capital city.

Galgalo urged drivers to exercise extra caution during this festive season, as they transport Kenyans to various parts of the country.

“We urge our drivers to exercise caution especially as we approach the Christmas season. We will also ensure that the police ensure that all traffic rules are observed to the latter,” the county commissioner said.

Investigations have been opened to establish the exact circumstances of the grisly road accident.

Survivors of the horror crash, which happened at the Rupingazi Bridge, are receiving treatment at the Embu Level Four Hospital.

Meanwhile, reports on Standard indicate that there has been a surge in the number of accidents from 6,081 in 2018  to 7,229 in 2019.

Careless driving has been cited as one of the major causes of road carnage in the country.
