Risk factors attached to this condition include age, high blood pressure, sex and smoking.

In the case of sex, women are more predisposed to the disease compared to men. Moreover, the condition can be caused by the types of foods that one consumes, especially canned foods.

Here are the symptoms of the condition as outlined by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

1. Chest pain

The disease is usually a result of plaques buildup. Plaques narrow your coronary arteries and this interferes with the smooth flow of blood. The decreased blood flow can cause chest pain. In most cases, the pain goes away after a short time.

However, chest pain is not always a symptom of this infection. For confirmation, see a medic.

 2. Shortness of breath

If your heart can't pump blood effectively, then you are likely to experience breathing difficulties. This is one of the ways of telling that all is not well. Try making an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible.

3. Heart attack

Just like chest pain, this symptom occurs due to poor circulation of blood in your entire body. A heart attack is a lucid sign that you may be suffering from the disease.
