Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga has met with Harambee Stars and Kashiwa Reysol striker Michael Olunga.

The former Prime Minister revealed the meeting in a tweet on Thursday.

He said that Olunga briefed him about a tournament to be staged in the capital Nairobi and Homa Bay county that the footballer is hosting later this month.

"Met International footballer @OgadaOlunga who he briefed me on the upcoming tournament that he is hosting which is slated to take place in Nairobi and Homabay Counties later this month, " Mr Odinga's tweet read.

The tournament is dubbed the 'Michael Olunga Tournament' and is aimed at growing the game of football in the grassroots.

Olunga confirmed that he had indeed met the veteran politician in a tweet.

In his tweet, the Harambee Stars striker expressed his gratitude to Mr Odinga for sparing time to discuss the tournament.

"Met @RailaOdinga on matters of the upcoming MICHAEL OLUNGA TOURNAMENT and grass root football development. Thanks for your time," the footballer wrote on Twitter.

Olunga has been crucial in the Kenyan campaign to feature in the 2021 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) having scored a sumptuous equaliser in Alexandria when Kenya faced the Pharaohs of Egypt.

A few weeks ago, he cemented his place as a prolific scorer after scoring 8 goals for his Kashiwa Reysol club in a single game.
