Questions could be asked about Deputy President William Ruto's interest in the larger coastal region as he starts his five-day trip that targets a region that has traditionally backed Raila Odinga.
Incidentally, Dr Ruto will start his trip at Tana River County on Thursday, just a fortnight after Mr Odinga visited Galana-Kulalu irrigation scheme that had stalled.
For the DP, he will concentrate on the neighbouring Bura irrigation scheme before engaging in his usual fundraisers at the semi arid county.
Further, Dr Ruto will pitch tent at Kilifi County where a team associated with Raila Odinga, the Embrace team, visited a fortnight ago.
On Saturday and Sunday, he will visit Mombasa and Kwake counties. For the last ten days President Uhuru Kenyatta has been at the two counties inspecting development projects.
An officer from Ruto's team, Easy Okenyuri, said the DP knows nothing good comes easily thus his efforts to reach out to all regions across the country.
"It will be a five days marathon. The DP knows nothing good comes easily. He trusts in the Lord and he is committed in his course," she said in an interview with the reporter.
"The most important thing is that he's working. Whenever he visits, he has something at hand to give to the people unlike his competitors," she added.
On Monday, Dr Ruto will be at Taita Taveta, a county now witnessing budget stalemate. Incidentally, Governor Granton Samboja recently met President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga over the matter.
