Sanna Marin, who is currently serving as the Minister for Transport, has been chosen as the leader of the governing Social Democratic Party after the Prime Minister of Finland Antti Rinne quit.

Rinne stepped down as the PM after facing a serious public confidence crisis over the manner in which she handled a postal strike.

The Transport Minister, who is 34 years old, is expected to be sworn in as the new PM next week and will lead a coalition of four other parties that are all being led by female politicians.

She said that her primary focus upon assuming the reins of power would be to regain public trust.

"I have never thought about my age or gender, I think of the reasons I got into politics and those things for which we have won the trust of the electorate," Marin said.

When she finally ascends to the top political seat, Marin will not be the only leader in the world in her thirties as there are other leaders who are in their thirties.

Ukranian Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk is 35 and New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is 39 according to Aljazeera.
