In an interview on Citizen TV, Wednesday, Mwaura said that the proposals have several weaknesses that make them worth reconsideration.

He noted that he doesn’t agree with the proposal to reduce the number of Members of Parliament.

The lawmaker affirmed that the country needs more leadership positions for better performance and not reduction as suggested. He also noted that it is unacceptable for the former presidential candidate to fight for something that will not change the lives of the taxpayer at the end of the day.

“While ‘Punguza Mizigo’ is extremely popular in having 35% of the money devolved in counties, it is totally unacceptable to imagine counties can only be represented by 2 Members of Parliament,” Mwaura said in a video shared on Twitter by Citizen TV.

He also said that the Building Bridges Initiative and Punguza Mizigo are different and asked Kenyans to take their time to understand the proposals of each of them before they support any in the long run.

“Punguza Mizigo is a different initiative from the BBI initiative; the BBI question has not been put but people are taking positions based on their political inclinations,” noted the Senator.

He further said that it is not easy to have a referendum without water-tight referendum laws.
