Mr Mariga was on Tuesday disqualified from contesting in Kibra by-election race, after it emerged that his details were not appearing in the register.

The former footballer had been accompanied by former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale and Lang'ata MP Nixon Korir, a close ally of DP William Ruto.

Returning officer Jane Muli said: “We have invalidated Mariga’s nomination to vie in the Kibera by-election because his name is not on the voter’s register.”

IEBC gave Mariga a period of seven days to appeal the decision before an official position is taken over by the commission. He was Jubilee Party candidate.

On Wednesday, three of Mariga's lawyers met the officials to try and solve the debacles. IEBC will issue a statement after the meeting to clarify the issues.

"The complainant is indeed a registered voter .. he was registered on August 26th as a voter in Kariokor Social Hall polling station in Starehe Constituency," Mariga said through his lawyers.

With Mariga registering on 26th last month, he may not have his way since he did so long after the seat had been declared vacant by the IEBC.

Further, IEBC uses the 2017 adopted register, a move that also technically locks him out in the race to succeed former MP Ken Okoth, who succumbed to cancer.
