Speaking on Saturday during a Kuppet forum held in Kitui, the outspoken legislator called on the union officials to stop complaining and instead channel their energies towards recruiting more teachers into their ranks.

According to Mr Milemba, the only way that Kuppet can have bargaining power is if it has many members, saying that there is strength in numbers.

“Membership remains our core flagship project. My advice to all officials is to stop whining and start recruiting. All the teachers paying agency fee should be recruited and be made part of the union,” Omboko Milemba said.

The MP who is also a top Kuppet official vowed to ensure that the rights of teachers serving as examiners and invigilators are well taken care of.

He said that it was unacceptable that some teachers involved in the national examinations were working in horrible conditions.

“Never again shall the union look and observe as examiners sleep on the floor and as invigilators and centre organisers are poorly paid. We must have respect for the teachers who go to the marking centres," he added.
