This comes amid a push by allies of President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga to have the amendments made through the people.

But Mutura, who served between 2013 and 2017, says that the push will not be realized, as the proposed changes do not need the same.

According to the Mutura, the referendum push is the making of power-hungry people out to introduce more executive seats, which will fail.

"There is no referendum coming, this is the intention of people seeking to secure themselves job through the Prime Minister slot  (Hakuna referendum itakuja. Hii ni lengo la watu wanaojitafutia kazi kupitia kiti ya Prime Minister)," he said on Radio Jambo on Saturday.

Mutura who was elected on the now defunct The National Alliance (TNA) also warned against sneaking in more proposals into the report.

He warned that Kenyans will not accept any other report, in the event that the referendum fronters want to use the extension of the BBI taskforce tenure to make new proposals.

"We want to tell them to not dare make any additions or subtractions on the BBI report. There won't be any other report (Tunawaambia hii BBI wasijaribu kuongeza ama kupunguza, hakuna ripoti ingine italetwa)," he added.

But his remarks come at a time when majority of the political class appear contented with the details of the report and the plans to take it to the public for scrituny by the common citizen.

The same has been backed by Deputy President William Ruto, initially the leading anti-BBI force.
