At the coast, Odinga was received by Mombasa Deputy Governor Dr William Kingi along with other leaders before trooping to the former Prime Minister's Nyali home.

Ms Odinga relocated to the coast in January after undergoing eye surgery in China. The family moved her to Mombasa to recover from blindness.

Dr William Kingi, who accompanied Mr Odinga, took to his Facebook account to celebrate Ms Odinga's achievements as one of women leaders.

"Happy birthday dear Rosemary Odinga, you remain an inspiration to many women in Kenya and across the world. We celebrate your enduring spirit and courage in the face of adversity. As you turn a year older today, may our good Lord grant you all the desires of your heart," he wrote.

Mr Odinga took photos with coastal leaders and a host of friends to his daughter Rosemary Odinga. Mama Ida Odinga was also present during the occasion.

Earlier this year, Rosemary's uncle Dr Oburu Oginga recounted troubles she had been undergoing but reassured that she was getting well.

"As you know Rosemary was sick but we thank God she has now recovered fully, said Dr Oginga."

He added: She is a true Odinga and a fighter. This is evident in the spirit she has fought this illness with."

Her mother Ida said: Last year, we missed this annual church service because it was that day that Rosemary underwent a major surgery in China. But it is through your (congregants) prayers that she was healed."
