Ironically, the development comes amid a looming strike by staff in the 47 counties due to unpaid July salaries, as a result of reduces allocation from the National Treasury.

County assembly representatives on Tuesday commissioned the mace which has a height of 120 cm and is partially made of brass and given a gold finishing. It weighs 7.5 kilograms.

Speaker Ndegwa Wahome led the in officially adopting the object which acts as a symbol of his authority, expressing his honour for presenting it to the house.

“Today, I’m deeply privileged and honoured to be presenting the second Mace of the County Assembly to the House,” he said, according to the Standard.

The mace has five facets to represent the dive sub-counties of the county namely; Ol Jororok, Ndaragwa, Olkalau, Kinangop and Kipipiri.

On one facet is the engraving of the Nyandarua court of arms which includes a hippo head, the national court of arms on another and green potato plant on the remaining three.

County governments have since warned of the possible halt of operations in the 47 devolved units after the National Assembly only passed Sh316 billion of the Sh335 billion demanded by governors.
