Kibra branch chairman Jeckonia Onyango on Tuesday called on the board to allow for a free and fair party nomination for the people's candidate to be chosen.

Onyango warmed against forcefully choosing a candidate to contest in the upcoming Kibra by-elections. According to him, the move will automatically give their opponents a win.

He further noted that through party nominations, voters exercise their democratic rights. His sentiments come just days after IEBC announced the dates for party nominations and election dates following the death of MP Ken Okoth.

Local leaders from Kibra have been arguing that only a candidate from Kibra should be selected to take over. However, Onyango came out to distance himself from these talks.

So far, ODM has over 20 candidates who have shown interest in the Kibra parliamentarian's seat. The party will have a hard time selecting their best suit for this race with such a huge number of candidates.

ODM party has organized a meeting on Thursday to strategize on a way forward in the coming by-elections.
