On Thursday, Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) met officials from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) over the push for salaries increment.

They used the opportunity to submit several proposals they want implement with immediate effect to allow them deliver their service smoothly.

The teachers said that low pay is among the reasons some of them are not dedicated towards the delivery of their duties at the school levels.

They asked the union to consider the matter urgent to avert any form of education that is likely to arise at some point.

According Kuppet secretary General Akello Misori has affirmed that they will continue fighting for better pay for teachers until they realise the same at the end of the day.

“Kuppet proposes an increase in basic salary ranging between 30 per cent and 70 percent from the current minimum salary of Sh21, 756 to Sh36, 985 on the lower cadre. This is informed by the cost of living which has increased since 2016,” reads the proposal by the union, as quoted by Daily Nation.

Misori also said that both sides are committed to ensuring that the negotiations sail through.

Mr Misori  was accompanied by chairman Omboko Milemba while chief executive officer Nancy Macharia and chairperson Dr Lydia Nzomo led the TSC team.

Kuppet has also asked the union to promote teachers in Job Group K and J.

However, Mrs Nancy Macharia refused to comment on the promotion of teachers, saying they will share more information after a retreat.
