Olunga has been awarded as the best player in Japan’s league two in the month of August.

“I am happy to be elected August player of the month. I would like to thank God Almighty for His blessings. Without you it wouldn't be possible. My teammates, my supporters and everyone who believes in me, I am truly thankful. All I can do is to continue working hard and pray for better tidings in the future. GOD ABOVE ALL,” he broke the good news via Facebook.

In August, Olunga scored six goals in the league, after being part of the Harambee Stars squad that took part in this year’s edition of the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt in June and July.

He scored three goals against Renofa Yamaguchi on August 10, one goal against V-Varen Nagasaki on August 17 and two more goals against Gifu on August 25.

Olunga becomes the first-ever Kenyan to be named player of the month in Japan.

On Sunday, the former Gor Mahia striker captained Harambee Stars to a 1-1 draw against Uganda in an International Friendly match played at the Kasarani Sports Centre, Nairobi.
