Odibets, Bet Lion and Betika are among the firms that have already complied with the regulations of the government in regard to tax payment.

The firms have agreed to withhold 20 percent of the winnings from gambling as part of the requirements for them to remain in operation as per the Betting Control and Regulations Board. Only firms that are ready to comply with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) tax requirements continue to operate after EPL Kick off.

Odibet has confirmed that the clients only receive 80 percent of what they win from betting.

“Our clients will now get 80 percent of their potential winnings,” said OdiBets Country marketing manager Aggrey Sayi, as quoted by Citizen Digital.

The firms ensure that the said percentage is deducted immediately one places a bet. The deduction is not dependent on winning or losing of the bet at the end of the day.17 of the suspended betting firms are yet to start operating after they lost the battle against KRA following the ruling delivered by the High Court in Nanyuki.

Tax payer Lesaloi Selelo in October 2018 had filed a petition seeking to challenge the deduction of the 20 percent but the court ruled against him. Gamblers have since been lamenting over reduced earnings from different sports.
