Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Tuesday night, Duale said the 2022 contest will be between Deputy President William Ruto and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga.

The Garissa Township legislator described other politicians who have declared interest to succeed Uhuru as 'donkeys' in the race to the State House.

"In every election there are jokers. In 2022, it will be a 2-horse race. The rest are donkeys," Duale said during News Night segment.

"I can tell you for free. The presidential contest in 2022 will be between 2 people - William Ruto and Raila Odinga. I will be backing William Ruto," he added.

Reacting to the remarks, Kuria mocked Duale and wondered how he could ridicule presidential aspirants when he was among legislators who won parliamentary seats with very few votes.

"Hii dunia ina maajabu (This world is full of wonders). A camel elected by 2000 people calls others donkeys? How now?" the Gatundu South MP posted on Facebook.

Kuria has maintained he was a 'serious' presidential contender and has repeatedly vowed not to drop his bid for any other politician.

Other politicians who have declared interest in the presidency include Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetang'ula, Alfred Mutua and Wycliffe Oparanya.
