Moi University is seeking to introduce new academical changes that aims at ensuring students take more of their time in studies.
As it is a norm in all institutions of higher learning, a student who fails an exam is required to redo the exam for the second time.
At Moi University, if a student fails to pass, he or she will be required to do a supplementary exam popularly referred to as 'supp' by the students.
As per the new rules contained in a document shared by the institution's student, ''The final mark for a pass in a supplementary examination shall be the minimum pass mark for the programme unless otherwise approved by the Senate. The mark for a supplementary examination shall be indicated with an Asterisk (*) in the transcript."
Performing poorly in the supplementary of one or two core course(s) will force a student to repeat the year.
If one fails after repeating a year will face more severe consequences, discontinuation.
''A candidate who fails regular and supplementary examinations after repeating the year of study shall be discontinued on academic grounds,'' notes parts of the document containing new regulations.
The charges of doing a supplementary examination have also been proposed to be Sh1,000 compared to Sh400 per unit that you were required to pay previously.
Other proposed changes include; Examination Irregularity Hearing Fee from Sh2,000 to Sh4,000, replacement of Academic Certificate or Defaced Certificates will be going at Sh50,000, alumni fee from Sh1,000 to Sh1,500 and failing to collect your certificate after graduating will make you pay Sh1,000 per year for storage.
If the proposed changes will be effected, then the students will have to work harder in their studies.
