Uhuru on Wednesday, alongside his BBI co-founder and ODM leader Raila Odinga, handed the 14-member team more office time.

In a tweet on Thursday, Kisiang'ani noted that the move might take the nation back, arguing that it is likely to revive the opposition against the report, thus affecting its implementation.

He said that the president should have taken advantage of the consensus in the country to have the document passed through Parliament, to avoid further barricades.

"We are receiving reports that President Kenyatta has extended the tenure of office of the BBI taskforce to break down the document for the people and guide public discussions. This in my opinion is not the way to go. This could spark fresh disagreements over the matter," he said.

A statement issued by State House on Thursday noted that the task force will spearhead public participation, a move that Kisiang'ani termed as unnecessary.

He opined that since the content of the report is already known by the public, the shortest route should be taken to have its recommendations implemented.

According to the university professor, President Uhuru should consider leaving the report in the hands of Parliament for further processing.

"Given that the BBI taskforce report is already with the public, Parliament should urgently meet to draw up guidelines for discussing the document and for appointing those to preside over public discussions. The Executive should now give way for Parliament to take charge," he added.
