Edward Mwendwa, Kibwana’s Press Director told Capital FM News on Tuesday that the Governor is still in the race for power.

He affirmed that the county boss is ready to throw the hat in the ring when that time comes amid speculations that he is likely to back the second in command as he seeks to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“Governor Kibwana has never endorsed Ruto’s candidature, if anything, he already announced that he will offer himself for presidential elections in 2022,” said Mwendwa.

Mwendwa also said that Kibwana has not been discussing 2022 politics with his Alfred Mutua of Machakos and Charity Ngilu of Kitui. He reiterated that their meetings have been based on development matters and nothing more.

He further said that the Governor is putting in place measures to ensure he is strong enough to contest.

During a recent Turkana cultural festival which was also attended by Ruto, Kibwana said that Ruto should not be taken for granted. He noted that the Kalenjin political kingpin is likely to pull a surprise when that time comes.

He also reiterated that he is still in the race for power before Uhuru completes his second and final term in State House.
