Kagaari South MCA Robert Ireri now wants the milk banned from being sold in the Kenyan market to pave way for the local dairy to benefit from the same at the end of the day.

He said that the local farmers in the field continue to suffer at the expense of foreigners’ products flooding the market.

Ireri said that farmers have suffered massive losses as well as feel exploited by the importation of cheap milk yet they are expected to pay taxes in the long run.

He noted that there are packets of milk all over Embu from Uganda dairy farmers, which he said is not a good idea at all considering the economic struggles farmers in the country go through to ensure they are productive.

He has asked the officers who approved the milk to give an explanation on the same.

The lawmaker, who spoke at the County Assembly Chambers during a plenary sitting, said that the government should embrace a policy formulation to protect the farmers from any form of exploitation they are likely to face because of the importation of maize from foreign nations.
