President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga will on Saturday return to Murang'a in Mt Kenya region, in what is becoming a routine for the two leaders.

The two principals are expected to attend the burial of Benga maestro John De Mathew, who perished in a road accident last week a long Thika Road.

A fortnight ago, the two leaders also shared a platform at the county during the burial of Peter Kenneth's mother. DP William Ruto was also present.

Moments after his death, the two leaders sent their condolences, terming him as a progressive musician who educated the society about the contemporary issues.

“DeMathew was a great composer of Kikuyu lyrics, which carried undertones of societal ills, including alcoholism, and promoting peace and cohesion in society,” the President said.

"John Nganga Mwangi a.k.a John De Mathew did a great job as an artist. He enlightened young people against illicit brews while also educating his community on culture and current affairs. I wish his family and fans comfort during this trying time. May his soul rest in peace," added Raila.

Apparently, their trip to Mt Kenya comes amid succession debate in which Uhuru has seemingly changed tune by snubbing his deputy William Ruto.

Last week, Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru sparked a heated debate when she publicly endorsed Mr Odinga, arguing that he has competencies to take over.

The burial is currently underway and it's said that President Uhuru Kenyatta requested the family to arrange it for today (Saturday) due to his anticipated tight schedule.
