The senator said that the arrest of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko shows that the DPP has failed in his position.

He argued that Haji has failed to address the interest of the general public, adding that he is sleeping on the job he was given.

In a video shared on YouTube, Sunday, the lawmaker said that the DPP has not jailed even a single individual since he assumed office yet he claims he is working.

He also slammed Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i of what he termed as misuse of power.

"I want to ask Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji; Do not arrest leaders and mishandle them. You are no longer the Director of Public Prosecutions but Director of political persecutions. If he hears a politician is on the wrong side he runs to arrest him so that newspapers and media houses can capture him on news. However, since he started fighting graft there is no single person he has jailed. (Nataka nimwulize Director of Public Prosecutions bwana Noordin Haji. Usishike viongozi kama ambao you mishandle them. Hata wewe Nordin Haji si Director of Public Prosecutions. Siku hizi amekuwa director of political persecutions. Akisikia tu ni mwanasiasi ni kama ako na shida anakimbia ndo magazeti washike yeye, vyombo vya habari washike yeye. Lakini tangia aanze vita ya ufisadi hakuna mtu mmoja amewekwa ndani kutokana na kwa sababu ya kesi ya ufisadi),” Cherargei said in part of the video.

Sonko was arrested on Friday over the embezzlement of Sh358 million.

He is expected in court on Monday to respond to accusations levelled against him.

The county boss has since claimed that his arrest in politically-instigated.
