The DP's allies have been questioning the Initiative founded by President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM boss Raila Odinga early 2018, which many have translated as his (Ruto) own stand.

Maanzo on Tuesday questioned Ruto's self-isolation in the Initiative which has been backed by all major politicians, also questioning his opposition to his boss Uhuru's movements.

He noted that as the remaining leaders, there is no harm in him jumping on board, blaming his apparent appearance like the odd one out on his unwillingness to join fellow leaders.

"The Deputy President can also join the BBI, he is only politicking. When Raila united with Uhuru and Kalonzo (Musyoka) he could have also joined (Hata makamu wa rais anaweza kuingia kwa BBI, hii anafanya ni siasa tu. Wakati Raila aliungana na Uhuru na Kalonzo na yeye pia angeingia pale)," he said on Radio Maisha's Bunge La Maisha on Tuesday.

The MP said that unlike the narrative being spread by Ruto's allies that the handshake and BBI are meant to scuttle his presidential ambitions, it could be of benefit to him after a close look.

He further called upon Kenyans not to be divided by the widening rift and ongoing fights between the two groups of leaders, noting that the leaders remain close friends behind the scenes.

"Even Ruto can get some benefits from the BBI. And Kenyans do not be fooled, these people know each other (Hata huyo Ruto kuna vile BBI inaweza kumsaidia. Na wakenya musichezewe akili, hawa watu wanajuana)," said the Wiper MP.
