President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday held talks with his counterpart Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

The leaders pledged to normalise bilateral relations as the two nations seek to resolve the maritime war between them. 

The duo agreed to start the restoration of visa issuance to allow for free movement of people, goods and services between the two nations.

During the address, President Farmaajo said his government is ready to work with Kenya for the sake of peace and economic empowerment. 

He appreciated Kenya's role in the war against terror in Somalia after a crackdown on Al Shabaab militia.

“During the meeting, the two leaders reaffirmed the invaluable relations that exist between Kenya and Somalia and agreed to explore avenues of strengthening bilateral and diplomatic ties between Nairobi and Mogadishu for the benefit of the citizens of the two nations," State House said

“Kenya and Somalia have today agreed to normalise bilateral relations starting with the restoration of the issuance of travel visas on arrival for citizens of the two nations,” added State House.
