Gor Mahia defender Joash Onyango has been named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the Kenyan Premier League.  Onyango was given the award during a ceremony conducted at the National Museums of Kenya on Monday night. The award comes with a Sh1 million reward.

Onyango played a pivotal role in the team’s qualification for the CAF Confederations Cup. He was also named in the Harambee Stars squad to Africa Cup of Nations finals in Egypt after he staged exemplary performance during the last season of the competition. 

He further thanked his teammates and former Harambee Stars coach Sebastian Migne for the support they gave him to win the award.

“First of all, I want to thank God for being able to reach this milestone. Secondly, I am grateful to the players for helping me to achieve this. It has always been my dream to win this award," he said as quoted by Standard.

Other players who were also awarded during the competition are Joash Onyango (Defender of the year), David Majak (New Young Player of the year), Enosh Ochieng (Golden Boot winner), Dr. Wilson Makanga (Chairman’s Award), Hassan Oktay (Coach of the Year), Faroukh Shikalo (Goalkeeper of the year), Joash Onyango (Most Valuable Player) and Francis Kahata (Defender of the year).
