A form three student in Busia has lost both his testicles after an encounter with police officers from Sio Port Police Station on Tuesday evening.
Harrison Odhiambo, a student at Hafumbre School said that he met the officers as he was coming from the shop, adding that they landed on him with their batons, smashing both his testicles.
The 16-year-old boy who is currently admitted at the Busia County Referral Hospital was reportedly assaulted over claims that he appeared like a young man with criminal intentions.
His mother Mary Akinyi said that the incident occurred at around 7pm, after sending the boy to buy soap.
“My son left school at around 7pm and asked me if he could get soap. I told the sister to give him money and he went to the shops where along the way he met the officers who assaulted him,” she told People Daily.
Doctors at the hospital said that they had to remove the testicles after examinations showed that they were both destroyed beyond repair.
The doctors noted that the student was taken to the hospital while in bad condition.
"We removed both testicles because they were completely crushed with only supporting tissue left,” said Dr Namdala Edukule.
The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (Ipoa) on Thursday said that a probe has been initiated into the issue by its detectives in Kakamega county.
The matter was reported at the Sio Port Police Station.
