Acting Treasury CS Ukur Yattani on Wednesday announced the release of Sh11 billion to 18 counties to enable them clear pending bills.

Yattani said that the funds will be used to settle validated pending bills as the government seeks to improve the welfare of the taxpayers.

 Yattani, also the Labour CS, said that his docket has also released Sh.7.3 billion, which will be shared among 12 counties that have already cleared their pending bills. 

During Madaraka Day Celebrations, President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered all counties to clear their pending bills with immediate effect for the smooth running of their operations. 

He also reiterated his commitment to helping counties clear their pending bills.

"Note that the government has made a commitment to complete these payments by 30th November 2019. I urge everyone involved to take the necessary measures to meet the deadline," part of the government's statement read

The counties set to benefit from the allocation are Vihiga Sh465,255,000,  Meru Sh803,910,000, Tana River Sh585,525,000, Kericho Sh538 million, Nyandarua Sh487.4 million, Kiambu Sh943,170,000, Isiolo Sh424,110,000, Elgeyo Marakwet  Sh386.1 million, Nyamira Sh481 million Tharaka Nithi Sh392,460,000 Homa Bay will get Sh674.1 million and Kajiado Sh642.4 million.

The Treasury has also listed Nandi Sh534,885,000, Kilifi Sh1.04 billion, Makueni Sh740.6 million, Kwale Sh778.5 million, Laikipia Sh417.7 million,  Nyeri Sh541.2 million and Uasin Gishu Sh633 million Embu Sh430,440,000, Machakos Sh775,425,000, Garissa Sh702,630,000 and Kirinyaga Sh424, 110,000.

Others are Kitui Sh883, 035,000, Taita Taveta Sh424,110,000, Narok Sh803,910,000, Bomet Sh550,710,000, Baringo county Sh509,565,000, Mombasa Sh705,795,000 and Migori Sh677,310,000
