Dr Terra Leseeto, one of the most experienced officers in the taxman's team, will now take over the roles of the lead investigator at Times Towers.

KRA Commissioner-General (CG) Githii Mburu, through an internal memo to staff dated December 3, communicated the board’s decision.

“I wish to communicate the decision of the KRA board to appoint Dr Leseeto, in the position effective December 2. The appointment is a culmination of a recruitment process that commenced on September 13 which was opened to all staff,” stated Mr Mburu in his communique quoted by Standard.

“The Authority will benefit from the wealth of experience, leadership, technical knowledge and team work in pursuit of our mandate.”

Dr Leseeto is credited with the development and implementation of various framework policies and strategies in the areas of investigation and intelligence and in the success of various high impact investigations and intelligence operations.

“He has served in various roles in investigation and enforcement and intelligence and strategic operations department,” stated Mburu, affirming that the new commissioner is not a stranger to the docket he once held.

Mr Mburu held the post before his surprise appointment early this year to replace retired John Njiraini, who was in charge of KRA for a couple of years.

Dr Leseeto will now be in charge of tax fraud investigations, with KRA targeting those who have been evading taxation for years.

Last week, the Budget and Appropriation Committee approved Sh1 billion for KRA which will be used to recruit over 1,000 new workers who will focus on investigations within the Commission.
