The officers have come under sharp criticism from the public and political quarters over the manner in which they arrested the Nairobi County boss.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga is among leaders who expressed displeasure citing that Sonko's arrest was "humiliating and not pleasing".

However, Ayako defended the officers in questions saying they dealt with the governor just like any other Kenyan citizen.

"If the police have to effect arrest, then, they arrest you the way they arrest any person and if you try to resist, they use reasonable force," Ayako said on Monday.

He further urged the public not to be pointing fingers at the police because they operate under difficult conditions especially while dealing with politicians who hire goons to counter them.

On Friday, Governor Sonko was forcefully arrested in Voi in connection with loss of Sh357 million.

Following his dramatic arrest, former Kibwezi MP Kalembe Ndile has said that the officers who arrested SOnko should be charged for manhandling him.

Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris, Babu Owino (Embakasi East) are among other leaders who have condemned the manner in which Sonko was arrested.
