Residents of Masaba North in Nyamira County have protested over what they termed as increased harassment by vigilante group members.

Speaking during a public baraza at Gachuba market, the locals threatened to take the law into their hands should police officers fail to intervene. "Vigilante group members are harassing us at night yet police officers are not doing anything to flush out the outlawed group members. "We demand that security patrols be intensified to ensure no vigilante group member given room to harrass innocent local," opined a resident Jacob Mesaria.Another resident Emily Kerubo, decried that traders at Gachuba market are forced to close business as early as 6pm due to fear of attacks by vigilante group.  "We deserve to live in peace without being harassed by outlawed group members. Traders should be assured of their security while conducting daily businesses," she noted. Roy Otwori raised a concern of darkness at the market saying the county government should move with speed install security lights at the facility. In a quick rejoinder, Nyamira commissioner Amos Mariba challenged residents to embrace Nyumba Kumi initiative and report any suspicious people to police for necessary action.
