This incident occurred at Nyaura village in Kisii County.

Confirming the incident, area chief Hosea Mose said the deceased identified as Enock Magero took his life after his wife, Prisca Moraa, abandoned him.

"Magero married Moraa five years ago but they were not blessed with a child. Moraa cheated on him and they sold all the land they had and other family property. She abandoned him when he became broke after spending all the money," said the chief.

Mr Mose said Magero's efforts to have his wife return home didn't bear fruits because Moraa said she can't live with a broke husband who has nothing.

"Magero was angered after he went with elders to Moraa's home to convince her to come back but she refused. He returned home and hanged himself," said Mose.

He said Magero's body was found hanging from a mango tree outside his house in the wee hours of Saturday morning.

"Police officers from Kisii Central Police station took the body to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue," he said.

The chief urged men not to marry just any woman, arguing that some women are only interested in money and not building strong families.
