The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has dismissed claims that Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula has quit the opposition National Super Alliance (NASA) coalition.

ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna said on Tuesday that Wetangula knows what the law says about his intended departure from NASA and can therefore not make the announcement from a rally.

"Wetangla is a lawyer who understands what he needs to do to leave NASA," Sifuna told local Swahili newspaper Taifa Leo.

"He knows that for him to leave the coalition he has to do it in writing. He cannot claim that he has quit the coalition after making the announcement in a village meeting."

Wetangula announced Ford Kenya's withdrawal from NASA two days ago while addressing the press in Mtwapa, Kilifi County where he was holding his party's meetings as he bolsters support for himself ahead of 2022.

"As far as I am concerned, NASA is history. We supported our presidential candidate but he let us down and we can not continue being part of history," he said.

But ODM on Tuesday said the law was very clear that the Bungoma Senator has to write to the NASA secretariat announcing his departure from Kenya's largest opposition coalition.
