Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i in the company of top police officers visited their Ruaraka base on Friday in which he hailed them for securing lives of over 700 people.

"IG @JBoinnet, PS @Karanjakibicho and I visited GSU officers, at the unit’s headquarters in Ruaraka, to thank them for their swift response in coordination with other @NPSOfficial_KE units and humanitarian responders during the 14 Riverside Drive incident," read his tweet.

Police have since arrested over five people believed to have aided the attackers with a Nairobi court granting them 30 days to lock suspects within any police station at the city for interrogation.

An officer who spoke in confidence said the minister was thrilled by the response, thus the decision to give 50 bulls as a form of appreciation to 'good work' by the officers.

"I was sitted at the bank. He gave money for 50 bulls to all of us. He was happy with the response and encouraged us to love our work. It's something that has never happened before," he said.

With a contingent of officers from the unit involved in evacuating several Kenyans, their Recce Company counterparts brought down five terrorists who had taken thousands hostage.

GSU is a branch of the police that usually deals with handling emergencies and unlike their fellow police counterparts who go to Kiganjo, they train in Embakasi.
