A middle-aged woman has committed suicide in Athi River, Machakos county.

Her body was found lying in her rented house in Jua Kali slums.

The incident was confirmed by area Chief Nzau Komo who said the woman had a belt on her neck.

Komo said the deceased's neighbors suspect she fell off the roof where she had hanged herself.

He said the neighbors alerted the police who came to pick the body.

"Her body was discovered by neighbors who notified the police on the incident, it seems she had hanged herself and fell since she had a belt on her neck," Komo said.

Komo said the reason as to why the woman chose to take her life is still a mystery since she left no suicide note behind.

"The reason as to why she took her life is still unknown and she left no suicide note behind," Komo said.

He advised residents to desist from taking their lives when they face challenges in life.

"Everyone has gone through challenges and committing suicide isn't an answer to problems," he said.

The body was taken to Machakos Level 5 Hospital mortuary for preservation.
