His death on Saturday will sprout a series of memories from citizens who believe that he did a lot for the country.

For a start, Annan was not just a world peacemaker after retiring from the UN; he brought that peace to Kenya when the country was on the brink of collapsing into a war.

He volunteered to broker peace talks between President Mwai Kibaki and Raila Odinga in 2008 after election chaos began to spread in the country.

At the time, the country's electoral commision had declared Mwai Kibaki winner of the presidential elections, something the opposition said they would never accept.

Chaos then began and Kenyans turned against each other not with words but machetes and other weapons that targetted only one thing: killing.

But Annan accepted to lead the group conducting peace talks that brought a stop to an impending war that had already claimed over 1200 lives.
