Political analyst Herman Manyora has opined that Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga still has his eyes on the presidential seat.

This comes amid Raila's silence on his plans, though a number of his allies have hinted that he might once again take a shot at the top seat.

In his weekly YouTube analysis channel, Manyora observed that Raila appears very keen on taking another stab at the seat, hence his silence on other political issues.

He linked this to Raila's lukewarmness on matters concerning the Kibra parliamentary race, saying that due to his truce with President Uhuru Kenyatta, the ODM boss is not interested in any distractions.

"Raila is on his march to State House. The handshake is determined to reach State House come 2022. But the gods are asking for sacrifices, it would appear to me Kibera is going to be one of those sacrifices," he said on Saturday.

The university professor observed that Uhuru, who has also been appearing to be pro-Raila, is keeping his side of the deal by also making sacrifices to impress his deputy William Ruto.

According to Manyora, Uhuru's recent endorsement of McDonald Mariga as the Jubilee candidate in the Kibra by-election, a seat Raila's ODM is seeking to retain, was solely to impress Ruto.

"Uhuru is also making sacrifices. Receiving the Jubilee candidate who has been dubbed a Ruto candidate is a small sacrifice to pay. To make William Samoei happy that he has had his way," he added.

Uhuru and Raila have appeared to enjoy a close relationship after their 2018 truce, a move that has caused Ruto and his allies to appear sidelined.

While Kenyans remain uncertain about Raila's 2022 plans, Ruto's presidential ambition is already in the public domain.
