Wanyama rose from the bench to replace Frenchman Moussa Sissoko in the 67th minute but could not prevent his side from losing 2-1 to Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

Wanyama’s side was leading 1-0 at the time of his entrance courtesy of a Harry Edward Kane goal in the 29th minute.

Two minutes late, Leicester equalised through Ricardo Pereira before James Maddison assured the Foxes of all the three points via a 40-yard strike in the 85th minute.

In the 71st minute, Wanyama got a yellow card after taking out Pereira who had surged through midfield past Tanguy Ndombele.

Wanyama was making his first appearance for Spurs this season. Recently, he was linked with moves away from the Mauricio Pochettino led-side but his supposed move to Scottish giants Celtic or Belgium’s side Club Brugge did not materialise.

Last weekend, Pochettino said the Kenyan midfielder is now in his plans after failing to leave Spurs.

“Victor Wanyama is in my plans. Christian is in my plans. Before, I understood that they were in a difficult situation and, of course, we tried to help them, to help the club, to do their business. When it’s one player [who wants to leave], then OK.

"But when it’s a few players, who start to make it difficult to create a good dynamic, a positive dynamic… now we need to start to win games. Be refocused and who is not refocused is going to be out,” said the Manager.
