The DP has visited Nyamira over 10 times, with the most recent trip coming in October. He toured North Mugirango, West Mugirango, and Kitutu Masaba.

Joash Nyamoko, the North Mugirango MP who also doubles as Gusii Parliamentary Group chair, on Sunday gave the strongest hint that he could be switching camps.

With a number of leaders from the region supporting either Raila Odinga or CS Fred Matiang'i, Nyamoko is facing a rebellion from his own constituents.

At Magwagwa, the former Nyamira Assembly speaker insisted on the essence of endorsing a top Kisii leader, identifying Matiang'i as the chief leader.

But the MP now wants the minister to tame people around him, arguing that a number of them are stumbling block to the minister's grip as de facto leader in the region.

"We need a unifying leader and Matiang'i can easily do that. He has shown that he's indeed a performer and we can't abandon him," he said.

"However, let him tame some people around him so that we can work as a team. It's pointless to have people surrounding him who don't like others," he added.

Calls to have Matiang'i running for presidency have been gathering momentum with local leaders asking opposition leader Raila Odinga to endorse him.

Governor John Nyagarama, Senator Okong'o Mogeni among other leaders have been pushing for Matiang'i's presidency.

Should Nyamoko quit Ruto's camp, he will join Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi and Borabu MP Ben Momanyi who switched camp for Matiang'i in June this year.
