Over the weekend, DP Ruto was captured lecturing people believed to be Raila Odinga's supporters, the majority of whom are Luos.

"These people telling us a lot of stories think that we do know them. They see destruction. If they don't destroy parties, they destroy houses," Dr Ruto said.

"If not houses, they go for the railway, and if not railways, they destroy friendship. These are people we know. For what purpose are we entertaining them for?"

On Monday, Ruto through his spokesman David Mugonyi, denied disrespecting the Luo community, adding that he was quoted out of context by his critics.

However, Babu Owino at a press conference in Parliament on Tuesday insisted that Ruto's remarks were divisive and that there is a need for him to issue an apology.

"The Deputy President must respect the Luo community. He used to be a minor in ODM and Raila Odinga was his boss. If he disrespects a major tribe, what about minor tribes? We respect Kalenjins because we are all Nilotes. DP Ruto must grow up. If he's run out of ideas, let him subscribe to Raila's school of thought," he said.

In 2008 when Ruto and Raila were in ODM party, their supporters were accused of uprooting Kenya-Uganda Railway along Kibra in Nairobi, then a constituency under Raila Odinga. It's occupied by a majority of Luos.

The DP quit ODM in 2011 and formed URP. The party was dissolved in 2017 when at least 14 parties joined together to form Jubilee Party.
