Three people lost their lives on Wednesday night after vehicles they were travelling in were involved in a grisly accident along Machakos-Nairobi road.
The accident involving a personal car and a matatu happened at Katheka Kai, Machakos.
Harriet Kathure, Machakos Traffic Base commander confirmed the accident stating that more than 10 people sustained injuries.
Kathure said that the 14-seater Matatu belonging to MAKOS SACCO was heading to Machakos from Nairobi when it collided with the car heading to the opposite direction.
"The car was overspeeding and on trying to overtake other vehicles it collided head-on with the Matatu," she said.
Those who died include drivers of both vehicles and a child.
The injured were taken to Machakos Level Five hospital for treatment while the bodies of those who died were moved to the same hospital mortuary.
Kathure confirmed police have begun investigations into the accident.
She urged drivers to avoid speeding and be conscious of other road users citing that many accidents that happen can be avoided.
"Drivers should adhere to traffic rules so that many accidents can be averted," noted the Machakos traffic boss.
The two vehicles were towed to Machakos police station for inspection.
