Kiambu's proximity to Nairobi has come to earn the county the name 'bedroom of Nairobi'.
This, however, has come at a cost as some social ills like thuggery, prostitution among others continue to overflow from the city to the county's urban centres.
Prostitution, for instance, has taken roots in some Kiambu towns to an extent that even the authorities seem to have given up on fighting against the vice leaving it to thrive to unimaginable levels.
That said, let's focus on five Kiambu towns that are heavily infested by twilight girls.
1. Thika. The town has been a thriving hub for sex workers since its heydays when it was known as the 'industrial town' of Kenya. Its economy was big which attracted sex workers in numbers whose main targets were initially industrial workers.
Though the town is no longer economically strong as it used to be, the continued influx of sex workers has been contributed by among other factors its modest life.
2. Ruiru. The town is located along Thika Road and has traditionally been a major attraction for sex workers. Its location between two major institutions of higher learning (Kenyatta University and JKUAT) among other factors continue to make it a top preference for sex workers.
3. Githurai 44. The majorly residential town sits on the Kiambu-Nairobi border. The town is a major hub for estate sex workers who target area residents.
4. Kiambu town. The town is among the oldest urban settlements in the county and Kenya as a whole. It has been an administrative centre since the colonial era and today it serves as the county headquarters. As a result of such factors, Kiambu continues to lure sex workers in gigantic numbers.
5. Kikuyu. The town has also been around for several years. Its location between Kiambu County rural and Nairobi City has seen it flooded with sex workers from both sides. It is also along the route for long-distance trucks whose drivers and 'turnboys' are notoriously popular among prostitutes.
