This is after the Wamunyu Patrol Base gave the residents a go-ahead to kill the dogs that have been wreaking havoc in the area.

The police came just days after Hivisasa highlighted the case where locals were counting losses.

Led by area business community chairman Sammy Thuva killed some of the dogs and chased the others from the area.

Thuva who spoke exclusively to Hivisasa said that they have been counting losses due to the marauding canines.

He said that for several weeks now, they have been calling upon the county government to deal with the dogs but no action has been taken at all.

"Until when are we going to complain yet our cries fall on deaf ears. Today we now have an opportunity to take action on our own," said Thuva.

Last week, the residents had come up in arms stating that they were losing their goats and sheep to the stray dogs.

Area headman Ivia Wa Ngumbi had disclosed to Hivisasa that the dogs had been left homeless after their owner, an alleged witch doctor relocated from the area a few months ago.

Since then they have been roaming the area scavenging for food before turning on the livestock of the residents.

Management of stray dogs is still a global topic with authorities and lobby groups divided on the lines of inhumane and humane ways of handling stray dogs.

The World Health Organization recommends that in some extreme cases, stray dogs can be killed through means like shooting.
