"What happened is that I was waiting for the DP at Kisii Sports Club, Maangi called me to the side, he asked why I keep taking Hon. Onyonka to the DP, I told him that the DP and Onyonka have their own friendship, then I told him very respectfully that I don't think he can be elected to be governor of Kisii County, which is my opinion, he hurriedly tried to slap me and ran into a group of bodyguards who were standing nearby. That is all," said Anthony Kibagendi.

One of Mr Maangi's aide, Job Oyugi, indirectly admitted about the early morning scuffle, adding that Mr Kibagendi has clashed virtually with all elected leaders from Gusii region.

Mr Oyugi said: "Am told half of the elected MPs have at some point slapped Kibagendi, ata professionals kama Manduku have blacklisted him from their offices, Kibagendi atatuonyesha maneno, the new Shebesh."

The two leaders were waiting for Deputy President William Ruto who was just about to land at Sports Club for leaders meeting before proceeding to Kisii University graduation ceremony.

Both leaders could not be reached for comment since they had resumed their seats at the main dais by the time of going to press. They have always played an instrumental role in popularizing the DP in the region.

According to Gusii community culture, when one is addressing an elder, he or she ought to do it courteously, a reason why Maangi may have reacted to Kibagendi is such a manner.
