In October 2016, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua warned a section of MCAs who he claimed were demanding money from him in order to halt a motion seeking his impeachment.
The incident happened at an event that was held at Mulu Mutisya Gardens where the governor was unveiling a statue of the Ukambani legendry the late Mulu Mutisya who served as a nominated MP for 18 years under the KANU regime.
The defiant Mutua said he would not succumb to their demands.
"I will not listen to their blackmailing tactics. And I want to tell them that their plan will not succeed because I have the backing of the electorate," Mutua said.
Mutua said it was shameful for the leaders to try blackmailing him for their own personal benefits.
"I will never give them a penny. The money belongs to the people of Machakos and it's for development," he said
He urged the residents not to re-elect such leaders and instead elect people who are committed to execute development across the county.
Mutua was accompanied by MPs Itwiku Mbai (Masinga), Victor Munyaka (Machakos Town), John Munuve (Mwingi North), the then Machakos speaker Benard Mung'ata and a few MCAs led by former Majority leader Joshua Mwonga.
