Kalonzo says that while going to Russia for the World Cup finals is not wrong, using taxpayers' money to fund the trip was not right.

Kalonzo said that the MPs should have funded the trip on their own.

"I think the MPs should have footed the expenses on their own and not rely on taxpayers if they are not official duty," he said on Saturday in Kajiado when he attended homecoming party of Grace Parantai.

The former Vice President, however, said that a sizeable number of MPs should have been funded to travel to Russia if they indeed were going for a benchmarking mission as the National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi says.

The MPs trip to Russia has elicited sharp reactions with the majority of Kenyans hitting out at the legislators.

On Thursday, Muturi confirmed that 20 MPs are in Russia for World Cup finals.

He said the MPs mostly from the National Assembly Culture and Sports committee are on a benchmarking mission and will table a report once they get back next week.

It is estimated that the MPs were funded by taxpayers' money to a tune of Sh45 Million.

The one-month World bonanza comes to an end on Sunday with a thrilling final match between France and Croatia.
