Waititu recently opposed the ongoing demolition of condemned buildings in Nairobi, especially the ones erected on riparian land, proposing that the house owners be allowed to redirect the rivers to prevent the destruction.

Speaking on Radio Jambo's 'Mazungumzo Waziwazi' on Saturday, Mwaura who backed the Governor in the August 8 general polls made a U-turn, noting that he and Kiambu residents made a big mistake.

''Nilicampaign na yeye 2017 lakini naeza sema tulifanya kosa kubwa (I campaigned for him in 2017 but I have now realized that we made a big mistake),'' said Mwaura who vied for the Ruiru parliamentary seat in last year's election.

He further hit out at the county chief over what he termed as poor leadership, claiming that he has neglected his executive roles and service delivery for less significant issues.

Mwaura also weighed in on the recent situation involving Waititu's wife Susan Wangare, after she was arrested over alleged illegal construction in Nairobi, claiming that the Governor is redirecting county funds for private purposes.

''Atuambie kama ni ile pesa ya kupigana na pombe ndiyo anatumia kujenga majumba Nairobi na Kiambu, hakuna hata dawa katika hospitali (He should tell us whether he is using the funds set aside to fight illicit brews to construct buildings in Nairobi and Kiambu yet there is no medicine in Kiambu hospitals),'' he added.

Wangare was arrested on Wednesday in the company of 14 construction workers but was later released on a Sh80, 000 shilling cash bail, after interventions from Waititu.
